This kit comes with all the mounts needed for any helmet. The ideal kit for mounting your GoPro to a helmet using the 3m adhesive base plates. You’ll get two flat 3M adhesive base plates, two curved 3m adhesive base plates as well as 2 horizontal surface quick release buckles and 1 vertical surface j hook quick release buckle.

Your GoPro Wide also has the amazing upside down/video flip feature, so if for some reason you need to mount your camera upside down to get the perfect photo or video angle, you can program the camera to save the photo or video upside down so that it appears right side up when you review it on your computer or tv.

Review

My name is Adam Dunning I’m 25 years old and rode the Finke Desert Race 2009. First of all I would like to send a big thank you to Steve from Adventure Cams HQ Western Australia, for all the support he gave me in the 2009 Finke Desert Race. I would not have been able to share my experiences of the race with family and friends with out his help.
 
As for the GoPro Helmet cam that I used in the race, I intended to mount the camera and give it a run-in to get use to having extra weight on the side of my helmet,
also to make sure I had the camera angled in the correct spot to capture the best possible footage. In actual fact I never got the chance to ride with the camera before I used it, even in the prologue. Totally disregarding the instructions, I literally mounted the camera five minutes before I raced on the first day, Alice Springs to Finke. This wasn’t a problem; I didn’t even notice it was there.

I had looked into a few other brands of helmet cameras before the race and the GoPro was by far the easiest to operate, Lightest, smallest and delivered the best quality footage. For me it was a big bonus there was no other cords, battery packs or microphones to worry about, just the one small robust unit. When I arrived at Finke that afternoon and hooked the camera up to my laptop I was truly blown away by the top quality of the footage, the GoPro really is a point and shoot camera. As for the durability of the GoPro helmet cam, I can say first hand it is “built to cop a flogging” about six minutes into the second day of the race (Finke to Alice Springs) I hit a hard packed, deep set of woops in a corner at around 80km/h. Needless to say it was a fairly big get off! I was amazed how it didn’t seem to bother the camera at all; even the quality of the footage didn’t change during my crash as you can see on the video. I found the movies very easy to edit, adding music, effects, credits and slowing down and speeding up sections was a piece of cake, I didn’t even realise what the CD that came with the camera was for until I had already done all the editing of my footage I wanted to do. All in all I can honestly say I was glad I went with Adventure Cams HQ who supplied the “GoPro wide” helmet camera I used.

Question: What batteries do I need for my GoPro?

Answer: You will need 2 x AAA batteries, We recommend the use of NiMh rechargeable batteries (900 or higher mAh) or lithium. You will get 4 hours or more from either type. Standard alkaline batteries do not  last as long due to viabration which causes them to drop voltage quickly. For those using the camera in the cold ie snow boarders we recommend lithium batteries only

Question: How much recording time do you get?

Answer: Using the internal 16MB memory you can record about 40 seconds of video or store about 25 still photos. By using a 2GB SD card you expand the memory to record 56 minutes of high quality video or store 1900 photos. SD cards available click on the accessories tab for details

Question: Can I use a bigger memory card?

Answer: The GoPro will only accept a 2GB standard SD memory card. The camera will not recognize larger cards.

Question: What is the picture resolution?

Answer: The camera captures 5 megapixel digital photos. There is also a mode that shoots a photo every 2 or 5 seconds automatically 

Question: What is the video resolution?

Answer: Video is recorded at 512x384 at 30 frames per second. 

Question: What is the video format?

Answer: The camera compresses video using the Motion JPEG codec and stores the footage as an AVI (.avi) file. The files are easily downloaded and can be edited using Windows Movie Maker

Question: Can you record sound?

Answer: Yes, there is sound. The camera has ‘HI’ and ‘LO’ sound settings. LO was designed for motorsports or other loud external noise environments. 

Question: Does the camera have zoom?

Answer: The GoPro HERO cameras do not have zoom. 

Question: Is the camera waterproof?

Answer: The GoPro is capable of depths  of 30mtrs in the waterproof housing. The housing has also been designed with a convex lense so water freely runs off ensuring great shots no matter what your sport 

Question: Does the camera work with Windows? Or Mac?

Answer: YES, the cameras are compatible with Windows AND Mac. You can use with Windows ME/2000/XP/Vista and Mac OS 9.1 or later.

Question: Are the cameras the same for each kit?

Answer: YES,All the kits containing the new 170 wide camera are identical cameras with different mounting options. This makes them interchangeable with each other and all GoPro accessories and expansion kits.
