Variable Recording Quality and Resolution
The POV.1.5 records video with a number of different options for resolution and video quality. You can adjust these settings prior to recording to adjust the quality of the video you create and determine how much video you can save on each SDHC memory card. The three settings to consider are: 

• Frame Rate - this is the number of frames that are recorded per second. This setting affects how smooth the playback will be. The options are 30, 25, 24, or 15.
• Video Resolution - this setting controls the number of pixels recorded in each frame. Your choices are 720x480, 720x400, 640x480, 360x240, 360x200, or 320x240.
• Video Quality - this affects the amount of compression used when saving the video. The options are High, Medium, and Low. A high setting produces a sharper more accurate image, but takes more space on the memory card. A low setting saves space but sacrifices color accuracy and detail.

Here are some examples of how much video you can save on each SDHC memory card, depending on which settings you choose:

Clip Recording vs. Loop Recording
The POV.1.5 Recorder offers two different recording options, Clip mode and Loop mode.

• Clip recording - this works like a traditional video camera. When you press the RECORD button video is recorded continuously on the SDHC card until the card is full or until you stop recording.
• Loop recording - this special recording mode helps save space on the SDHC card by allowing you to save individual video clips of a pre-set length. This way the SDHC card retains only your best footage.

The POV.1.5 outputs video in both the NTSC and PAL video formats. In the U.S. the format standard is NTSC and in Europe the standard is PAL.

Edit your video, and then share videos online using the POV Manager software that is included with the POV.1.5.

Accepts external microphone via the 3.5mm jack, great for rally drivers and the like running two way intercoms.
Videos can be downloaded to your computer using the supplied USB cable or you can play video directly onto your TV using the supplied AV cable.

Software
The POV.1 records its videos using MPEG4, so you can use your Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Mac computer to view them.

Mac
Plug the POV.1 into a USB port or insert the SD card into a card reader in your computer. After a simple installation of quicktime components for MPEG-4, you'll be able to browse all of the videos, view them through Quicktime, and edit them in iMovie!

PC

• Install V.I.O.'s POV Manager software: simple, intuitive software that allows you to view, edit, and share video easily. For example:
• A POV Recorder window shows thumbnails of videos saved on the connected POV.1.5, and a POV Library window shows thumbnails of videos stored on your hard drive.
• Drag and drop video clips from the POV Recorder to the POV Library to move them between the POV.1.5 and your computer, or drag onto a play area to play them back in either actual size or full screen.
• See tags on the timeline during playback, and extract clips to the Storyboard window to quickly edit your video.
• Use the Share function to email your clips and upload them to V.I.O. where they can be seen by your friends.

Question: What type of batteries do I need and how long do they last?

Answer: The POV 1.5 runs on 4 x AA batteries we strongly recommend the use of NiMh rechargeable or lithium batteries. Standard alkaline batteries don’t handle vibration and as a result suffer from voltage drop. Battery run time is dependent on several factors, including internal settings and external environment. When using the POV 1.5 in a cold environment, the battery life will be reduced. NiMh rechargeable will last aprox 6 -7 hrs and Lithium will last about 10 hours.

Question: What size and type of SD card can I use?

Answer: The POV 1.5 supports any SD/SDHC cards that are 8GB. Please be sure to use cards that have a class rating of 4 or higher. Class 2 cards may still work with the POV 1.5, but you may experience corrupted/invalid clips from the use of the slower cards.

Question: Does the POV 1.5 produce DVD quality video?

Answer: Yes. We know our customers are looking to record the best footage possible, so we have created the POV 1.5 to meet your video quality needs.

Question: Is the POV 1.5 waterproof? How deep can it go?

Answer: The POV 1.5 has an IP67 rating, which means it is water proof to a depth of 1 meter (~3 ft) for 30 minutes. It is recommended that if you plan to use the POV 1.5 in an aquatic environment (surfing, kayaking, etc) that you cover the recording unit with a dry bag. Check out the accessories for more details.

Question: What kind of microphone connection does the POV 1.5 have?

Answer: The POV 1.5 is equipped with a 3.5mm external microphone jack.

Question: How big is the POV 1.5?

Answer: The recording unit of the POV 1.5: 168mm x 60mm x 37mm (6.61in x 2.36in x 1.46in ), and weighs 328 grams (11.57 oz.).

Question: What are the system requirements for the POV Manager?

Answer: The POV Manager requires the following minimum system configuration:

• Microsoft Windows XP or Windows Vista. Note: Manager is only compatible with the 32 bit versions of Windows XP and Vista
• Microsoft .Net 2.0 Runtime Environment
• At least 256 MB of RAM
• 10 MB of available hard disk space
• The DivX codec (supplied on the POV.1.5 CD-ROM)
• CD-ROM drive
• An Internet connection if you want to share videos online

Question: How does the TAG feature work?

Answer: The TAG feature of the POV 1.5 is used to highlight certain important points in your video when using our POV Manager software.

Question: How does LOOP mode work?

Answer: Recording in LOOP mode allows you to save captured video of events after they have happened. When in LOOP mode, POV 1.5 keeps a video clip in its memory (length of clip is set in the settings menu) and will save the clip only if the user presses the TAG button. If the TAG button is not pressed, the particular clip is not saved. If the user presses TAG during the first third or last third of the clip the POV 1.5 will save the adjacent clip as well.

Example: If LOOP mode is set to 3 minute clips, and the user hits tag at 2 minutes 20 seconds the POV 1.5 will not only save the current clip, but it will also save the next clip as well.
 

Question: What format are the video files and what software do I need to edit them?

Answer: The video files are AVI which you can play back with the VIO software supplied or you can use Windows Media Player or Quicktime. The files are very easily edited using Windows Movie maker were you can add music, effects and titles.
